Band of the Week: SID (シド)

From left to right: Shinji (gt.), Mao (Vo.), Yuuya (Dr.) & Aki (Ba.)

SID has been around since 2003, but it seems like a lot of people here in Europe still don't know them. They're your typical Japanese rock band. I don't dare to call them a Visual Kei band because their style changes very often. If you're into ナイトメア (Nightmare) or THE KIDDIE you might also like these guys.

I know I said SID was around since 2003, but if you ask the band they'll tell you that they officially started on 14 January 2004. Ever since then they made quite an impact in the indie scene. They worked hard and eventually earned the title of "the monster band of the indie scene". In 2006 they got in the Oricon's top 10 with their single “Chapter 1”, but it didn't stop there. They also got to perform at the famous Nippon Budokan live hall. A year later their single “Mitsuyubi (蜜指 )” got into the top 5 of the Oricon charts.

2008 was another big year for SID. They announced that they would go major with Sony Records. For the anime fans among you, remember the opening theme of Kuroshitsuji? It was "Monokuro no Kiss (モノクロのキス)”, SID's major debut single. It would certainly not be their last anime intro/outro. SID was also asked to write songs for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Bleach.

On 1 August 2012 they will also release their new albumM&W. Personally I'm looking forward to it. SID is one of my favorite bands and it's nice to see that a band who worked this hard, gets the recognition it deserves.
