Band of the Week: Matenrou Opera

Matenrou Opera, founded by Sono and Yuu (both ex-Jeniva) in 2007, has been a success from the start. Their first ever concert was sold out immediately, guaranteeing them a place in he Visual Kei industry.

One year later their EP Gilia not only made the top 10 on the Oricon Indies Chart, it was also released in Europe, where they have performed alongside Versailles that same year. This gave them the motivation and confidence to take it much much further, one step at a time. They took on ambitious challenges, touring with bands like Deluhi and covering X-Japan for a compilation CD.

With a total of 4 albums and 14 singles out, as well as 5 live CDs/DVDs, these guys have become a well-established band in the J-music scene. They quickly accumulated fans both in Japan and overseas, and they all want one thing: Matenrou Opera ("Skyscraper Opera") on a stage of their own, out of the shadow of another band and in their own proper spotlight.
