Band of the week: NEW BREED

From left to right: Tama(Gt), Tommie-B(Ba), Toyo(Vo), Mark(Dr)

NEW BREED is a band that got founded somewhere in 2003 in the underground industrialmetal scene of Tokyo. Their music has many influences. Some songs are quite catchy with an industrial sound while other songs are really heavy rock/metal accompanied by some mean screaming. I could compare them to Dir en Grey, but they're not quite the same. NEW BREED really tries to make a unique sound and they won't stick to just one genre.

The reason I started listening to NEW BREED was because of fade. Vocalist Toyo has appeared more than once as a guest vocalist on a couple of fade albums. You can hear Toyo on the tracks “Slitting Regret” & “Chase for daylight”. Jon Underdown of fade also appeared as a guest vocalist on their first full album “Heart Racing Moments For All Lovers & Haters”. Check out the song “Cut me loose” if you have some spare time!

Maybe some of you are familiar with the “Punk goes pop” CD's? If you're not, it's exactly what the title says. Different band that cover pop songs in their own style. NEW BREED covered “Nothin’ On You” by B.o.B. & Bruno Mars, but also “Raise your glass” by P!nk.

I would recommend this band for people who lean more to the metal genre, but I'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether they're your style or not!
