1 6 8 - One Sixty Eight is the latest project by Aoi, and this is its first single to come out.

It has four tracks, the title track Setsugekka and SCANDAL, and their instrumental versions.

Setsugekka means something like "the beauty of four seasons", aptly-named since there are four tracks on the single. I don't know if this was intended to embody the actual seasons, but it could.



The song Setsugekka is somewhat harder than average J-rock, the intro sounds almost Moi-dix-Mois-esque, but then there's electro-rock and strong classic rock vocals. If I had to give this song a season, I'd say it's Spring, where everything comes back to life and explodes in enthusiasm and desire.

SCANDAL is a blues-y song that makes me want to go lie down in a field somewhere with nothing but this floating through the air. It's very relaxing and to me, it represents Summer, perhaps the end of summer where all the work is done and one can just lie around and enjoy the weather. We don't want to think of autumn yet..

..which comes down on us anyway through the instrumental version of Setsugekka.. ..followed by the instrumental version of SCANDAL which, without vocals, sounds very wintery to me.
