Band of the Week: Calmando Qual

Calmando Qual combine gothic industrial elements with rapping and screaming, sounding like the Bloodhound Gang at times, like traditional hard rock at others and in between, they are a mix of everything else over a base layer of heavy rock.

They themselves describe themselves as "Goth Rock", but as stated above, nobody could claim that this is all they are. One thing is for sure, though, whatever the theme of the song, the message is clear as day, and usually very loud.

Calmando Qual was started in 2001, but nothing major came out until 2003. They have released quite a few full albums and maxi-singles since then, their music evolving along with their style. Although it should be said these evolutions are very subtle, nothing too shocking.

They have played on the less visible end of the Japanese music industry, which allowed them to gradually build up their own skills and evolve as a band into the bigger success they are now. They can't be said to have a very large fanbase altogether, but they're still getting enough attention to tour Europe every once in a while.

This year, they'll be back in May, for a partially joint tour with Plunklock! Calmando Qual will be supported by the Râmen Events crew, Plunklock will be supported by Kanzen Music.
